Oops, Maybe Mitchell Missed Someone in His Own Back Yard, Huh?

Saw this interesting post over at Was Watching.
In wanting to make a point about the Mitchell Report not being the all-inclusive bible of naming PED users, Kevin Kennedy said that a current colleague of his, who was with the Boston Red Sox in 2004, told him that he (the colleague) witnessed, for a fact, a member of the '04 Red Sox injecting himself in the buttocks with a needle full of PEDs. Kennedy said that the user is no longer a member of the Red Sox - but, he was a player on the team that won the ring in 2004. As per Kennedy, his colleague said that the "user" was giving a demo (to the "colleague") on how to do the injection.

Just for fun, let's all play George Mitchell (if he actually cared to investigate the franchise that pays his check) and run down the list of guys who were on that World Series team and are no longer Red Sox:
Alan Embree
Bill Mueller
Bronson Arroyo
Curtis Leskanic
Dave Roberts
Derek Lowe
Doug Mientkiewicz
Gabe Kapler
Johnny Damon
Keith Foulke
Kevin Millar
Mark Bellhorn
Mike Myers
Orlando Cabrera
Pedro Martinez
Pokey Reese
Ramiro Mendoza
Trot Nixon

Could any of these players be considered Kevin Kennedy's "colleague"? It would seem to be either a jounalist, club official (Kennedy is a former manager), or someone who also works for the LA Dodgers. We can throw out players who are still active for other teams. That leaves Mueller (Dodgers front office), Kapler (minor league manager), or Leskanic (scout).

Remember, this wasn't behind closed doors, this was a player openly shoing others how to use PEDs. Yet, Mitchell did not so much as sniff around the Red Sox. To clairfy, one of these people:
Gabe Kapler
Bill Mueller
Curtis Leskanic

was instructed on how to use PEDs by one of these people:

Alan Embree
Bill Mueller
Bronson Arroyo
Curtis Leskanic
Dave Roberts
Derek Lowe
Doug Mientkiewicz
Gabe Kapler
Johnny Damon
Keith Foulke
Kevin Millar
Mark Bellhorn
Mike Myers
Orlando Cabrera
Pedro Martinez
Pokey Reese
Ramiro Mendoza
Trot Nixon

Oh wait, Mitchell's investigation is over? He's not interested in pursuing this any longer? Besides calling only Yankees to testify before Congress, this is a closed issue?

On another note can someone explain why Chuck Knoblauch is being called in to testify, but prominent players named in the report (Cy Young winner Eric Gagne, MVP Miguel Tejada, etc.) are not even asked to appear? For anyone who says Mitchell was even slightly objective, I point you to the above paragraphs. Yankee witch hunt.

Considering we now know the Yanks played juiced in 2003, haven't won a WS since the ban I'd expect them to try to get the RS dirty somehow. And the NY 2004 choke is still embarrassing to them.

FOX sports hates the Red Sox, the fans hate FOX.

The "scoop" was "heard" by a Yankee fan. FOX + Yank fan sounds like gossip to me.

Well, someone needs to "try and get them dirty" since Mitchell never investigated them. The Paxton Crawford lead? Mitchell dropped it like a hot needle.

Why does the colleague have to be a player on the 04 Sox? Could have been a coach.

Anonymous is right, the Sox are totally clean and the Yankees are just jealous that they can't even win when they cheat.

yeah... he sox should be beyond suspicion. kapler didn't look like he was using, did he? he just wanted to take off for a year or two, slim down, lose some muscle, manage a minor league team, then try to make a comeback. what is suspicious about that? yankee fans are obviously jealous. they've never had their team win anything. that is why they're here posting on this red sox website... oh... wait a minute...

i'd put my money on every single clubhouse containing someone who was using prior to the testing. and there are probably still at least a handful of guys using currently. but if you can't handle that thought, by all means, bury your head back in the sand, kids.

Solid post. Points out real things happening. Glad you broke it down so we'd know who it was watching the PEDs; at least it's down to 3 players. Too bad Mitchell won't care since a bosox is involved. Truly bullshiiiat that the investigation has been so completely one-sided.
