Yankees Acquire Bergenfield, NJ Native Villone
Ron Villone, former #1 pick of the Seattle Mariners, was acquired today by the Yankees from the Marlins for minor league RP Ben Julianel. Villone was pretty damned good against lefties in 2005 (.222/.324/.256). Essentially, all lefties against him became Tony Womack... and thi was a down year for him. He's scheduled to make only $2M in 2006 (which is a bargain in this market) and gives a second lefty to Torre's bullpen. Essentially this is the end of the line for Al Leiter. I can't imagine a third lefty out there. Fantastic move by Cashman. Julianel is not considered a prospect, was the throw in on the Sterling Hitchcock trade to the Cardinals, and was left unprotected in last week' Rule 5 draft.

I believe ROn Villone has alot of talent and will make a Big impact for the yankees. Maybe now playing for the yankees he will get more respect from the umpires with his slider.
