Jeter : Gold Glove :: Kim Jong Il : Nobel Peace Prize

We all know that most of the award voting in baseball is a joke, but is there anything more ridiculous than the Gold Glove awards? They gave Rafael Palmiero one when he'd played less than 30 games there and was a DH.

Now they award Jeter with another one, when not only do the defensive metrics say the opposite, but even with the naked eye it's readily apparent that Jeter's future away from the shortstop position is coming quickly.

He's obviously lost more than a step and these voters can't see past the intangibles.

Cano and Teix were among the deserving, though.

ATTN: Mark Teixeira

This is a baseball:

This is a baseball bat:

Please try using the latter to hit the former. Thanks. 2-for-18 isn't cutting it in the three hole.

Good to See the Boston Media Being Fair and Balanced

OH-Ver RAY-Ted!...
OH-Ver RAY-Ted!...

Mark Teixeira waves to fans from the dugout before taking batting practice before playing the Cleveland Indians in a Major League Baseball game Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Yankee Stadium in New York.

The $180 Million Man Is Batting His Weight at .222

Leigh Teixeira's Husband Is 19th in Batting... for MLB First Basemen
Just 10 Hits on the Season for Mr. Leigh

So How LOUD Is Fenway Gonna Be?

-----------------------
Look, we get it. He didn't want to play for your team, so your ownership and media threw him under the bus (which they usually wait to do until they want to get RID of a player (Nomar, Manny, etc) but I digress...).

Personally I'd rather have a Gold Glove, 29 year old first baseman who is starting the season at these stats, and is a notoriously slow starter throughout his career:
AB 45 HR 3 AVG .222 RBI 9 R 6

than a 33 year old who is seemingly 400 lbs, can't play defense at all, also has a huge contract, and a much less hot wife whose performance has been in decline since the team got rid of his insurance policy hitting behind him:
AB 59 HR 0 AVG .220 RBI 8 R 6

Of course the Boston press once again shows their class by going after the opposition and not their own.

New Yankee Wives Are Easy on Eyes

Mets blog The 'Ropolitans details the newest Yankees' wives and breaks down their... hotness. Here's my take:

Karen Burnett is gorgeous, but sort of in that Hooters girl kind of way. John Hughes movie role: the rich stuck up girl who dates the guy Molly Ringwald is secretly in love with.

CC's wife is... intimidating. I'd be more frightened of her than him in a dark alley. I'm sure she's sweet but she looks like you wouldn't want to cross her. John Hughes movie role: the best friend and shoulder to cry on for Molly Ringwald's character who gets together with someone who seems an odd match for her (small and skinny and bookish Anthony Michael Hall) unexpectedly at the climax of the movie.

Given a choice, I'll take Leigh Teixeira in a heartbeat over the others. John Hughes movie role: Molly flippin' Ringwald.

Très adorable.

Also get this, from Gammo himself:
"[Teixeira] wanted to go to the Yankees, his wife doesn't like Boston -- apparently she doesn't like the stores on Newbury Street or something -- and in the end that's the way it goes."

Classy, Gammo. Taking shots at players' wives because the player didn't sign with your favorite club.

Here's hoping Leigh's got a single sister out there for me.

A Mark Teixeira Christmas.

"E" before "I." "E" before "I." Gotta remember that. It shouldn't be a problem since I actually learned to spell Mientkiewicz.

Getting Teixeira was a total shock to me. It's like asking Santa for a new bike for Christmas and he shows up on Christmas Eve with an Ecosse Titanium Series motorcycle with the 200-horsepower, 2150cc polished billet intercooled and supercharged aluminum v-twin engine, and MotoGP-spec Ohlins suspension.

If California ever legalizes same sex marriage, I may just have to propose to Brian Cashman.
